History & Culture
Cinco de Mayo, Spanish for "Fifth of May", commemorates the day of Mexico's victory over the French at the Battle of the Puebla in 1862.
Currently, the day is celebrated in Mexico with reenactments, parades, dancing, food, & drinks; however it is mostly celebrated in the city the battle took place. Popular dishes include chicken tinga, mole poblano (a dish that includes both chiles and chocolate), & agua fresca.
Local Promotions & Events
Look to your favorite local Mexican restaurant for promotions & curbside pickup. Many are offering margaritas by the pitcher, party packs, and zoom dance parties.
For example, Long Islanders can check out K Pacho for a "Virtual Fiesta" with DJ Scuba live on Facebook from 5:00-8:00 pm tonight.
